Laura & Kevin

For some reason when I get enquiries from brides, I first want to know everything about the wedding and then I just have to know about the bride’s background and her interests. So when Laura initially called me to shoot her wedding I felt we had an instant connection. After discussing the wedding details we got on to other things and we discovered that we both have strong passion for fine arts. Laura’s an artist (I’ll be posting some pics of her work soon), and once I saw her incredible paintings I fell in love with them and decided to put a different twist on her wedding images. So I did some research on some favourite painters and photographers to gain some fresh inspiration for her wedding images. We concentrated on formal and more posed shots, and once I reviewed the images after the wedding I felt that the results were even more perfect than I had imagined.

There was something about the photographs that made me process most of them in black and white, which was my first love when I discovered my passion for photography. This really brought me back to my film and darkroom days and although I went digital only three years ago, I’m now inspired to pull my film cameras out of the boxes and start doing some old fashioned film photography again. While I did shoot some candid shots as is my usual style, my concentration was for the most part on the shots that were set up. Kevin and Laura made it so easy for me.

The wedding was a very creative and unique affair held at Mrs. Mitchell’s in the quaint hamlet of Violet Hill. If you haven’t been to this hidden treasure put it at the top of your list. The restaurant itself is in an old schoolhouse and has a fabulous atmosphere, and the food, oh the food – let’s just say that if you haven’t been, make a reservation now.

And lastly, I also discovered that some of the guests were also artists or at least had a somewhat artistic look, so you’ll see more guest shots than normal here.

I loved this wedding. Laura and Kevin, you were stunning, thank you so much for letting me try some new stuff out and for making me part of your day. xoxo
