Katie & Olivia

Katie & Olivia are the daughters of my long time friends Roger and Nancy, and I’ve been wanting to photograph them forever.

It took me a long time to decide how and where to do this shoot, and in the end I settled on just doing everything at my home studio and made some crazy “costumes” for them.

We played dress-up during the entire shoot. At one point Olivia spotted a basket of hats that I’d made last winter during my knitting craze so we had to use them, of course. (I’ve also made some for a charity drive, see info at the end of the post). Their tutu’s were handmade by me, the tops were purchased second hand for about $5 each and the jewellery is mine. So are the sweaters and plaid tops towards the end of the post – I just kept digging through my closet because I didn’t want the shoot to end!

I love the results. Thanks girls, you were amazing and I can’t wait to do this again!

That’s Olivia in the wall portrait, taken 3 years ago on Cape Cod.

The shoot was featured on Rock n’ Roll Bride a few weeks later!

Hats for Charity!

In 2010, the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign helped send over 50 kids to Camp Kitchikewana who would not otherwise have been able to attend due to financial barriers. My daughter spends a few weeks each summer at Kitchi and I honestly can’t say enough about it – she absolutely LOVES it. All proceeds from the sale of these hats will go to YMCA. Each hat is one of a kind and sell for $25 each. I’ve also got tons of newborn hats ready to go for $10 each. My goal is to sell all of them to raise $500 – this will send a kid to camp for one week. Please contact me if you’re interested! Retailers welcome.
